Nelson Mandela once said that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
The Bwoga Elementary Library (BEL) initiative honors this call by aiming to change the Bwoga community through educational opportunities and exposure to the outside world. In particular, the aim of the BEL initiative is to construct a library for the children of Bwoga, with the mission that every child will have a place where they can access a book to read and other resources to help the children develop skills such as storytelling, typing, and playing a musical instrument. The BEL initiative will help transform the lives of many children in Bwoga through programs related to starting and running a business, recycling and protecting the environment, voting and civic education, mentorship, and sex education. The BEL initiative will particularly help connect Bwoga girls with educational opportunities such as scholarships. In this pursuit, the initiative will not only help in combating trans-generational poverty, but social stigmas related to females such as early marriages.
The BEL initiative has already secured funding for the construction of the library. The construction is progressing well (as seen in the picture attached below). We are now raising money to help equip the library with books, computers, and other educational materials, and to cover related operations such as paying a librarian to oversee the activities in library. We welcome your participation—sharing about the initiative or contributing individually to support our mission of providing reading resources to the children of Bwoga.
